Ah yes.. it's the end of August and that means it's FUNDRAISING season!

Went to a fuin lil casual fundraiser on Friday for Brian Hurlburt who is running for State Rep for the towns of Ashford, Tolland and Willington. Our state congress needs some new blood..so elect him if you live there! One notable that showed was West Hartford's state Rep; Jonathan Harris. Chris Murphy wasn't able to make it though seeing he is hard at work with his own campaign- which will be hard fought and hopfully WON against the incumbant Nanacy Johnson.

Anyhoo.. polictics shmolitics...

I went to a fundraiser last night in support of my friend who has created one of the most amazing non-profits. It is called Hot Water Rescue.

"Hot Water Rescue focuses on the rescue of the Molosser breeds that we consider to be at most risk of overpopulation, abuse, neglect, and abandonment. The breeds that we feel most fit that category are as follows: Rottweilers, Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Terriers, American Bulldogs, Cane Corso Mastiffs, Dogo (Presa) Canario's, Dogo Argentino's, and Bandogges. We never take or refuse a dog based upon age, health condition or gender as we are firm believers in rescuing without prejudice."

Pretty amazing stuff! Although I will admit I am a registered Independant. How can I be an Independant you may ask? Well it is simple, and there are many reasons.

First off I don't understand politics all that much, nor will I pretend that I do. I think all our leaders do the best job they can with the information that is available to them- and yes I also think they DO know more about some things in this world than we do. Some things are just not meant to be shared with the public.

Secondly, I don't like being harassed for my vote. I don't need people calling, mailing, and my door being knocked in to get me to vote. Which reminds me. Oh Joe, yes you Sen Leiberman...how in the heck did you get my telephone number?? I have enough confidence in the people to choose who they fell best represents their party..I feel I want to chose who I feel best represents ME out of those choices.

Thirdly, I have many friends and contacts who work in our State Capital- some as Lobbyists- one being the current Governor's son, some as laywers and others as Senators. I like to stay neutral and not take sides b/c to me that is like pinning one friend agaist the other and therefore I always split my ticket based on what I feel is best for me.

Lastly, my husband's job as a Project Manager makes it absolutely crucial we have no party affiliation or loyalty. Keeping you nose clean is the secret to longevity. Just look up the Manafort Contruction Company, LLC and you'll see how much trouble that can get you in. Stupid John Rowland- the guy got sloppy, made some bad choices and now his career is ruined. That guy prolly could have been President some day.

Ahh well I get to go to the Massage Therapist and the Chiropractor today...apparently I fall into the Chiropractic category of "twice a week". Fun is. I think you must get worse before you get better..right? I hope so b/c I am back on my heating pad every night AND a fab muscle relaxer so I can sleep.

Tommorrow after work I get to drive to my lawyer's office which on a normal day is 40 mins away..on a Friday afternoon it will definately be much longer than an hour.

Gotta work a lot this weekend too..although I was just told a few days ago that I really don't need to work anymore. Which I am not complaining about...however.. if I don't work all I will do is sit here and blog all day..which isn't really all that productive. But on the flip side.. not standing around for 4-5 hours at a clip will do WONDERS for my injuries.

Oo wow.. so I had my first visit to the chirpractor today..that was.. interesting. She readjusted my neck..sort of.. apparently one of my joints wasn't doing what it was supposed to do.. such as move.. so she decided to give me the old heave-ho. WOW. Incredible...although I hurt like hell now from my neck to the base of my spine. At one point when she was working on my neck I felt it all the way to my elbows..AMAZING. I get to back on Thursday after my first Massage Therapy appointment. Alternative healing... interesting stuff I tell ya.

So yes we went to a Martini Party on Saturday night..think I mentioned that. Great fun and yummy drinks. There was Mango, Cranberry, Apple, Watermelon and Espresso. Watermelon and Espresso were my favorites! Yummy nibbles were brought too.. guacamole, a couple of dips with the marbled bread, cheese and meat platter and I brought Marguarite Kabobs.

They are easy and yummy.. plus they look pretty. Basically grape tomatoes, mozzarella balls, chopped fresh basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt, pepper, crushed garlic to taste. Mix it all up in a bowl and them make lil kabobs out of them. I also put a small bowl of imported olives on the side.

We also played a fun game.. "Shout at the Movies". Wives vs. Husbands of course...and yes.. the wives prevailed 47-0. I will admit it took a bit for us Wives to get our game on..but we did and had a come from behind win.

So we will be in attendance at a Martini Party this evening.. husband arguing that we should NOT bring a nibble with us.. isn't that just good party etiquette?

Well we had some excitment happen in my backyard today.. a Cooper's Hawk( http://www.fnal.gov/ecology/wildlife/pics/Coopers_Hawk.jpg ) decided it was hungry so it snatched a Pigeon that was perched on the roof!

I heard a *cRaSh* and then about a minute later I hear my husband screaming.. "LOOK OUTSIDE"! Now mind you.. birding is MY hobby not his. So for him to get THAT excited I knew there had to be something good. There he was all pround munching on hs meal in the back corner of the yard. Way cool! Someone told me the minute you decide that predetation is acceptable you've become a naturalist. Sweet!

Anwways.. lightening abounds outside atm so cutting this short..

Well day 2 of blogging and I am already tapped out..lol.. no seriously...

So we had a bird in the store today.. that was interesting.. called visual to bring a tablecloth so we could "trap" it. I said just to shoot it seeing it was a nasty lil HOSP (House Sparrow) and one less of that is good news for me. http://www.sialis.org Educate yourself before you judge that comment.

My part-time gig is working in a high end dept store in the fragrance department handing out samples and smelly cards to people. It pays well and I have met some truly interesting people, including a few celebrities. My full time job is keeping my house in order- inside and out...lawn mowing, errands, grocery, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc etc etc...

I used to be a Real Estate Agent full time.. but I have since gone into the referral network... that is a subject for a different entry however.. not today.. I'm in a good mood and don't want to spoil it.
